Breuer Building

Location:  New York, USA
Architect:
Marcel Breuer & Hamilton P. Smith of Marcel Breuer & Associates
Completed:
1966
Status:
1966- Present
Brief Overview:
945 Madison Avenue- the Breuer Building- is a museum in Manhattan.  It was designed primarily by Marcel Breuer and opened in 1966 as the third home of the Whitney Museum of American Art.  After almost 50 years of residence, The Whitney moved out in 2014, and in 2016 the building was leased to the Metropolitan Museum of Art- subsequently becoming known as the Met Breuer.  This closed in 2020, and currently the building houses the Frick Madison- this is the temporary home of the Frick Collection, running for a two year spell between 2021- 2023.  The 5-storey buildings design was seen as controversial, but it has continued to be praised by critics ever since it first opened, and is seen as an integral part of the Upper East Side Historic District.

ALL NON UK ORDERS processed through our Etsy Store HERE

Our concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
