Cables Wynd House, Edinburgh

Trainspotting fans know it as Sick Boy's home, and Leithers just call it the Banana Flats. This Cables Wynd House miniature concrete model captures Alison & Hutchison & Partners' 1965 curved slab in Leith, with its elevated access decks. It has been a landmark of Edinburgh's social housing for sixty years and is now listed for its architectural significance. This concrete model of the Banana Flats keeps that unmistakable curve at 10cm, a piece of concrete art for a desk, shelf or windowsill. It's made for Leithers, residents past and present, Edinburgh locals, Irvine Welsh fans, and lovers of Scottish Brutalism and Brutalist architecture. It's a gift anyone from Leith will recognise in a second. Each miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete, heavy and slightly different every time.
