Some buildings feel like entire landscapes in themselves. The National Theatre on London’s South Bank, designed by Denys Lasdun and completed in 1976, is a vast composition of terraces, towers, and layered concrete planes. Both monumental and intimate, it has become one of the defining works of British Brutalism, at once a cultural stage and an architectural landmark.
This model was about finding the balance in complexity. The interlocking volumes, the bold horizontals, the deep shadow lines which each had to work together at a reduced scale. I wanted the cast to feel like a fragment of the whole, still carrying the gravity and drama of the original.

Brief Overview:
The Royal National Theatre is one of the most celebrated Brutalist buildings in Britain. Its layered terraces and bold concrete forms were designed to create a “theatre of public life” as well as a home for performance. Though once controversial, it is now recognised as a masterpiece of modern architecture and a cultural landmark of London.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
