Moore Street Electrical Substation, Sheffield

Some people call it a fortress, and others call it Sheffield's finest piece of concrete. The Moore Street Substation miniature concrete model is for anyone who has stopped to stare at Jefferson Sheard Architects' 1968 substation on the ring road. Its board-marked walls and heavy, windowless mass were designed with as much care as any civic building, and it's now Grade II listed. This concrete model of Moore Street Substation brings that mysterious presence down to paperweight scale for a desk or shelf. It's made for Sheffield locals, engineers, photographers and fans of Brutalist architecture who find beauty in infrastructure. It's a knowing gift for someone who notices the buildings nobody else does. As a miniature concrete building, it's heavy, tactile and unique to each cast.
