Brief Overview:
The NLA Tower (No. 1 Croydon) is a 24-storey commercial high-rise designed by Richard Seifert. Nicknamed the “Threepenny Bit Building” for its faceted form, it became the defining symbol of Croydon’s post-war redevelopment. Once controversial, it is now Grade II listed and celebrated as a distinctive modernist landmark.

Making my concrete model

NLA Tower, Croydon

If you're from Croydon and have ever called it the Threepenny Bit Building, the NLA Tower miniature concrete model is a piece of home. Richard Seifert's 1970 tower at No. 1 Croydon stacks its faceted floors like a pile of the old twelve-sided coins, and it became the symbol of South London's post-war rebuilding. This concrete model of the NLA Tower captures that stacked form at 8cm, ready for a desk, shelf or windowsill. It's made for Croydon locals, commuters who see it from East Croydon station, architects, and fans of Brutalist architecture and London modernism. As a gift, it comes with a local joke built in. Collect it with the Centre Point and Space House models. This miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete, so it has real weight and a surface all its own.
