Building Information

Location: Sheffield, South Yorkshire, UK
Architect: Jack Lynn and Ivor Smith (Sheffield City Council Architects Department)
Completed: 1961
Status: Grade II* listed, undergoing phased renovation

Brief Overview:
Park Hill is a vast Brutalist housing estate overlooking Sheffield city centre. Designed around the concept of “streets in the sky,” it was intended to rehouse communities from the city’s slum clearances while preserving social networks. Its scale, bold design, and later regeneration have made it one of the most recognisable and debated housing projects in the UK.

Park Hill Flats, Sheffield

The Park Hill miniature concrete model is made for people who have walked its streets in the sky, or grown up in their shadow. Jack Lynn and Ivor Smith's vast 1961 estate overlooks Sheffield city centre. Its decks were built wide enough for milk floats and meant to keep neighbours together. Today it's Grade II* listed and one of the most debated landmarks of British Brutalism. This concrete model of Park Hill Flats captures its frame and stepped roofline at 6cm, a piece of concrete art for a desk, shelf or studio table. It's for Sheffielders, residents past and present, architects and anyone who loves Brutalist architecture with a social conscience, and it's a Sheffield gift with real meaning. Like the building, it's solid concrete: hand-cast, heavy and slightly different every time.
