Completed: 1977
Status: Still in use, office tower and retail centre

Brief Overview:
The MLC Centre was designed by Austrian-born Australian architect Harry Seidler. At 228 metres, it was a record-breaking tower when completed and remains a striking presence in Sydney’s CBD. Its clean cylindrical form, flared crown, and innovative engineering made it a landmark of Australian modernism and an enduring part of the city’s skyline.

Making my concrete model

The MLC Centre, Sydney

At 228 metres it broke records, and it still stands over the Sydney skyline around Martin Place. The MLC Centre miniature concrete model captures Harry Seidler's 1977 tower in the CBD, whose octagonal concrete shaft and bold structural expression made it a landmark of Australian modernism. This concrete model of the MLC Centre keeps that slender, faceted form at 9.5cm, an elegant concrete sculpture for a desk, shelf or office. It's made for Sydneysiders, people who work around Martin Place, Seidler fans, and lovers of Brutalist architecture and engineering. It's a considered gift for an architect or engineer. It pairs with the Sirius Building model for two very different sides of Sydney. Each miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete.
