Building Information

Location: Margate, Kent, UK
Architect: Russell Diplock & Associates
Completed: 1964
Status: Still in use, residential tower

Brief Overview:
Arlington House is a 18-storey Brutalist tower block facing the sea in Margate. Originally part of an ambitious regeneration scheme, it features striking vertical fins and bold concrete massing. Though plans changed and parts of the surrounding complex were lost, the tower remains a local landmark, weathered, resilient, and unmistakably modernist.

Making my concrete model

Arlington House, Margate

The Arlington House miniature concrete model is made for anyone who has fallen for Margate. Russell Diplock & Associates' 18-storey tower has stood on the seafront beside Dreamland since 1964. Its zigzag façade of fins angles every flat towards the sea, and it has weathered the town's decline and revival. This concrete model of Arlington House captures its ribbed, saw-toothed form at 8cm, a small concrete sculpture for a desk, shelf or seaside windowsill. It's for Margate locals and newcomers, residents of the tower, architects, and fans of seaside Brutalist architecture who make the trip from London. It's a Margate gift with character. Each miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete, with real weight and its own marks.
