Park Hill
Location: Sheffield, England
Architect: Jack Lynn & Ivor Smith under J.L. Womersley
Completed: 1961
Status: Grade II Listed
Brief Overview:  Park Hill is a housing estate in Sheffield, England,  and was built between 1957 and 1961.  The design was heavily influenced by Corbusier's Unite d'Habitation  and some of the Smithson's unbuilt work- and intended to be an improvement to the conditions the site incurred during the 1930's with the back to back and 2-3 storey tenement buildings.  Park Hill itself though was not without it's problems, but was controversially Listed in 1998 making it the largest Listed building in Europe.  Currently the Estate is being renovated by Urban Splash in partnership with English Heritage.    There is a long list of cultural references for Park Hill- as it features heavily in film and music- from references by musicians Pulp and Yungblood, to appearing in music videos by the Artic Monkeys, and TV shows like Dr Who.  Park Hill even has it's own musical- Standing at the Sky's Edge by Richard Hawley.
