Some buildings ask you to experience them rather than simply look at them. The Brunswick Centre in Bloomsbury, London, designed by Patrick Hodgkinson and completed in 1972, is one of Britain's most ambitious examples of mixed-use modernism. Its dramatic stepped terraces, elevated walkways, and sculptural concrete forms were designed to bring homes, shops, cafés, and public spaces together in a single architectural vision. Today it stands as one of London's most celebrated Brutalist landmarks.
This model took time to get right. The stepped profile is what makes the Brunswick Centre so distinctive, but capturing that rhythm at a smaller scale was a challenge. I refined the terraces, proportions, and geometry through multiple iterations until the model conveyed the same sense of movement and depth as the original building.

Brief Overview:
The Brunswick Centre was designed by Patrick Hodgkinson with structural engineer Ove Arup as a bold new model for city living. Combining housing, shopping, and public space within a single stepped concrete structure, it reflected a belief that architecture could foster community as well as density. Following extensive restoration in the early 2000s, it has become one of Britain's finest surviving examples of Brutalist urban design.

My concrete models are made to order and individually hand-cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and textures from the curing process in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
