Model 083_Anniesland Court, Glasgow – Miniature Concrete Model
Hand-cast in fine concrete. Shaped by memory.

Some towers become a compass point. Anniesland Court is one of those Glasgow buildings you spot from a moving car or train and instantly know where you are.

Built on Crow Road in the late 1968, this 22-storey Brutalist residential landmark was designed by Jack Holmes & Partners.  Its most striking move is the separate stair and lift tower, bridged to the main block at alternate levels, giving the building a strong, engineered silhouette and a deep vertical shadow line.

Anniesland Court is also the only tower block in Glasgow to have Category A listed status, and it is recorded as the tallest listed building in Scotland. The banded elevations and the confident service tower have often been compared to Ernő Goldfinger’s later London towers, which makes it a satisfying piece of Glasgow Brutalism to hold in miniature.

I love this building for its clarity. It is all rhythm and stance: long horizontal window bands, a lifted podium, then that separate tower holding everything steady. Capturing it as a model meant chasing the proportions between the main slab and the service tower, and keeping the bridge connections legible at a smaller scale. I iterated the form to make sure it still reads as Anniesland in one glance, with the same sense of height and presence.

A small cast of a Glasgow tower that still anchors the west end skyline.

Brief Overview:
Anniesland Court was built as a landmark high-rise housing scheme with a podium and linked elements, including a terrace deck and associated lower blocks. The design pairs a narrow residential slab with a separate stair and lift tower, connected by enclosed bridges at alternate floors, creating a strong structural character and a distinctive profile. Recognised with Category A listing, it remains a standout example of Glasgow’s late-1960s Brutalist housing.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and textures from the curing process in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Materials

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions

Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.

My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.

Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
