Building Information

Location: Štrbské Pleso, High Tatras, Slovakia
Architect: Zdeněk Řihák
Completed: 1970
Status: Still in use as a hotel

Brief Overview:
Hotel Panorama was designed as a modernist resort tower in the High Tatras, combining Brutalist strength with a form inspired by the mountains around it. Its distinctive sloping façade and dramatic outline made it a celebrated piece of Slovak architecture. Today it remains one of the most recognisable high-altitude hotels in Europe and a symbol of Czechoslovak post-war design.

Hotel Panorama, Štrbské Pleso

The Hotel Panorama miniature concrete model is made for skiers, hikers and anyone who has stayed in the High Tatras. Zdeněk Řihák's 1970 hotel at Štrbské Pleso echoes the peaks around it with a steeply sloping, inverted-pyramid form. It's one of Europe's most recognisable mountain hotels and a symbol of Czechoslovak modernism. This concrete model of Hotel Panorama captures its angled, wedge-like profile at 8.5cm, a striking piece of concrete art for a desk or shelf. It's for Slovaks and Czechs at home and abroad, lovers of Eastern European Brutalist architecture and anyone who collects buildings with a view. It's a gift that brings back the mountain air. Each miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete, so every piece is unique.
