Some towers carry the weight of a whole vision. Lauderdale Tower, completed in 1974, is one of the three residential towers that define the Barbican Estate. Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, it rises 43 storeys above the city with a profile of repeating verticals and projecting balconies. Alongside Cromwell and Shakespeare Towers, it forms part of the most ambitious example of post-war housing in Britain.
This model captures its vertical rhythm. The slender bays, the depth of the balconies, and the sense of height were carefully reduced into miniature scale. I worked to keep the clarity of its silhouette and the sculptural quality that makes it stand out in the skyline.

Lauderdale Tower is one of the three 43-storey towers of the Barbican Estate, part of the larger vision by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. Rising above the City of London, it was designed to combine high-density living with light, space, and community. Along with Cromwell and Shakespeare Towers, it is a defining feature of Britain’s most celebrated Brutalist housing development.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
