Model 026_Apollo Pavilion – Miniature Concrete Model
Hand-cast in fine concrete. Shaped by memory.
Some buildings are closer to sculpture than structure. The Apollo Pavilion in Peterlee is one of the most distinctive pieces of public art and architecture in post-war Britain. Designed by Victor Pasmore in 1969, its interlocking planes of raw concrete form bridges, platforms, and voids are a composition that was meant to be walked through as much as looked at.
This model distills that sculptural quality. The overlapping blocks, the shifts in level, the crisp edges that all needed to be in harmony for it to work at a smaller scale. I wanted the cast to carry the same sense of balance and curiosity as the original.
A small piece of an artwork you can hold in your hand.

Brief Overview:
The Apollo Pavilion was created as a central feature of Peterlee’s Sunny Blunts estate, combining abstract modernist sculpture with practical walkways. Built from reinforced concrete, it became both a playground and a landmark, surviving decades of controversy before being restored in 2009. Today, it is recognised as an important work of British public art.

ALL EU ORDERS processed through our Etsy Store HERE
My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Materials
Materials
My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
