Some buildings feel like a maze turned into a monument. The Roger Stevens Building at the University of Leeds, designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon and completed in 1970, is one of the most distinctive Brutalist teaching complexes in Britain. With its interlocking lecture theatres, dramatic stair towers, and sculptural forms, it has become an unmistakable landmark of the Leeds campus.
This model was about distilling its complexity. The stacked volumes, the rhythm of the towers, and the deep shadow lines had to be carefully balanced at a smaller scale. I worked to make sure the cast retained the drama of the real building while keeping its clarity.

Brief Overview:
The Roger Stevens Building was commissioned as part of the University of Leeds’ post-war expansion and named after Sir Roger Stevens, the university’s Vice-Chancellor. Containing 25 lecture theatres of varying size, it was designed with interlocking forms and circulation routes that made it both functional and sculptural. Today it is celebrated as one of the finest examples of Brutalist university architecture in the UK.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
