Model 044_Rudolph Hall – Miniature Concrete Model
Hand-cast in fine concrete. Shaped by memory.
Some buildings seem to contain the energy of the people who use them. Rudolph Hall, completed in 1963 as the Yale School of Architecture, is one of the most celebrated works of American Brutalism. Designed by Paul Rudolph, its textured concrete surfaces, complex interior levels, and striking silhouette made it both radical and influential. It remains a touchstone for generations of architects trained within its walls.
This model was about getting the mass and detail in balance. The rugged façades, the layered volumes, and the sharp verticals had to be reduced carefully to hold their strength at a smaller scale. I worked to make sure the miniature kept the sculptural gravity that defines the building.
A small cast of one of the great American schools of architecture.

Brief Overview:
Rudolph Hall was designed by Paul Rudolph as the home of Yale’s School of Art and Architecture. Its deeply ribbed concrete, complex section, and bold sculptural presence made it one of the most admired and debated Brutalist buildings in America. Damaged by fire in 1969 and later restored, it remains a landmark of American modernism and a living classroom for architectural education.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Materials
My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
