Some buildings carry a kind of quiet elegance, they are sharp, simple, and unshakably confident. Alpha Tower is like that. Rising cleanly within the centre of Birmingham, UK, its crisp white concrete and vertical window bands give it a rhythm that feels both modern and timeless. Completed in the early 1970s, it remains one of the city’s most refined post-war high-rises.
This one meant a lot to get right. I grew up seeing it and knowing it before I even knew what it was. The subtle angles, the tapering shape, the way the light moves across its surface… none of that was loud, but all of it mattered. In miniature, those small things became everything.
This model holds that memory. A slender fragment of the city's old skyline, cast in solid form.

Brief Overview:
Alpha Tower stands at 28 storeys and is one of Birmingham’s tallest and most distinctive post-war towers. Designed by George Marsh of Seifert & Partners, it features a sculpted concrete form with subtle tapering and crisp verticality. Originally built for ATV television studios, it is now a protected landmark and an example of restrained, confident modernism in the city’s evolving skyline.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
