Some buildings feel like they’ve always been part of a City's skyline. The Birmingham Rotunda is one of them. Tall, cylindrical, and unmistakably modern, it rises from the heart of the city like a calm and steady watchtower. Since its completion in the 1960s, it has stood through decades of change, surviving near-demolition and emerging as one of Birmingham’s most enduring icons.
I’ve looked up at this building all my life. Its curve is simple, but getting that shape to feel right in miniature was anything but. Every detail, from the proportion of the bands to the softness of the profile needed to sit together. I worked and reworked it until it held the same stillness the real building has.
Now it’s here. A small tribute to the structure that has watched over Birmingham for generations.

Brief Overview:
The Rotunda is a 25-storey cylindrical tower that has become one of Birmingham’s most recognisable landmarks. Originally built as an office building and later converted to residential use, it was part of a wider post-war redevelopment of the Bull Ring area. Though once threatened with demolition, the Rotunda was saved, refurbished, and now stands protected as an enduring symbol of the city’s architectural legacy.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
