Arlington House

Location: Margate, England
Architect: Philip Russell Diplock of Russell Diplock & Associates
Completed: 1964
Status: 1964- present (Listed Status denied 2011)
Brief Overview:  Arlington House was designed by Philip Russell Diplock; the developer was Bernard Sunley who built airfields during WWII and leisure and office complexes in the Caribbean during the 1950s.  Arlington House was Sunley's failed attempt to bring the Caribbean model of beachfront leisure development to Margate- with the original proposal featuring a rooftop garden, theatre, restaurant and swimming pool- but only the restaurant was realised.   It is thought the Hawkwind song 'High Rise' was written by Robert Calvert while he lived in Arlington House.  In 2011 Listed Status was denied by English Heritage, and today it still stands almost in 'as built' condition.

Please note:

ALL EU ORDERS processed through our Etsy Store HERE

Our concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.
