Some towers become part of how we see a city. Cromwell Tower, completed in 1973, was the first of the three residential towers at the Barbican Estate. Designed by Chamberlin, Powell and Bon, it rises 43 storeys above the City with a distinct profile of recessed balconies and vertical concrete fins. Together with Lauderdale and Shakespeare Towers, it defines one of the most ambitious housing projects ever built in Britain.
This model captures its precise vertical rhythm. The balance of the bays, the set-back balconies, and the clarity of proportion had to be carefully refined at a smaller scale. I worked to make sure the cast carries the same presence that makes the real tower stand tall in London’s skyline.

Brief Overview:
Cromwell Tower was the first of the Barbican’s three 43-storey residential towers to be completed. Rising above the estate’s podium and gardens, it established the vertical rhythm and design language that Lauderdale and Shakespeare Towers would follow. It remains a defining feature of the City of London’s skyline and a landmark of Brutalist housing design.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
