Shakespeare Tower, Barbican Estate

Shakespeare Tower completes the Barbican's famous trio, and this Shakespeare Tower miniature concrete model completes the set. Finished in 1976, it was the last of Chamberlin, Powell and Bon's three towers, and its sharp, rhythmic balconies are some of the most photographed forms in London Brutalism. This 10cm concrete model of Shakespeare Tower is made to read clearly from every side, whether it stands alone on a desk or next to Cromwell and Lauderdale on a shelf. It's for Barbican neighbours, concert-goers at the Barbican Centre below, architects and collectors of Brutalist architecture. As a Brutalist architecture gift, it suits the person who already has the tote bag and the print. Each miniature concrete building is hand-cast in solid concrete, so its weight is real and its surface is its own.
