Model 061: Tate & Lyle Sugar Silo – Miniature Concrete Model
Hand-cast in fine concrete. Shaped by memory.
Some buildings carry the atmosphere of the place they were built for.
The Sugar Silo at Huskisson Dock is all rhythm, weight, and industry. Designed to store imported sugar from the Americas, this monumental structure rises along Regent Road like a concrete cliff—its long elevations marked by deep vertical fins, casting shadows that shift with the Mersey light.
It’s one of the great Brutalist industrial buildings in the UK—and one I couldn’t stop thinking about.
The repetition of the bays, the sheer scale of it, and the raw honesty of the structure made it a compelling challenge to translate into miniature. This model took patience. Dozens of tests to get the rhythm right at a smaller scale, without losing its presence.
Now it’s here. A piece of Liverpool’s dockside history—held in concrete.

Made for those who know the quiet power of Liverpool’s northern docks.
Whether it’s the raw geometry, the industrial romance, or the memory of walking along Regent Road and catching sight of it through the mist—this model holds that feeling. A sculptural fragment of a working structure that was always more than just functional.

Brief Overview:
The Tate & Lyle Sugar Silo was built to store raw cane sugar arriving at Huskisson Dock. Stretching over 130 metres in length, the silo’s Brutalist form is defined by tall concrete ribs and a dramatic sense of mass. Though industrial in origin, it’s recognised today as a powerful example of mid-century design—earning it Grade II listing for its architectural significance and enduring presence on Liverpool’s historic waterfront.

ALL EU ORDERS processed through our Etsy Store HERE
Our concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

Materials
My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
