Building Information

Location: Portsmouth, UK
Architect: Owen Luder Partnership (Rodney Gordon)
Completed: 1966
Status: Demolished in 2004

Brief Overview:
The Tricorn Centre was a Brutalist megastructure in Portsmouth, combining retail, parking, residential and leisure spaces into one sculptural concrete complex. Hailed by some as visionary and derided by others as oppressive, it became one of the UK’s most controversial buildings. Demolished in 2004, it remains a powerful symbol of post-war ambition and architectural risk.

Tricorn Centre, Portsmouth

If you know the Tricorn was never forgettable, this Tricorn Centre miniature concrete model is for you. Owen Luder Partnership's Portsmouth megastructure, designed by Rodney Gordon and completed in 1966, combined shops, parking, flats and a market in one sculptural concrete complex. It was praised as visionary, dismissed by Prince Charles as "a mildewed lump of elephant droppings", and demolished in 2004. It's still one of the most famous lost buildings of British Brutalism. This concrete model of the Tricorn keeps its angular ramps and clustered forms at 7.5cm for a desk or shelf. It's made for people from Portsmouth, anyone who shopped or partied there, and collectors of lost Brutalist architecture, and it's a Portsmouth gift with attitude. Each piece is hand-cast in solid concrete.
