Some buildings become part of the rhythm of daily life, so familiar, you almost forget how strange and striking they really are. The library at the University of East Anglia is like that. Set beside Denys Lasdun’s iconic ziggurats, it plays a quieter role on campus—but there’s something quietly powerful about it. An elegant gridded stretch of concrete and glass, grounded and purposeful. It feels like it's always belonged there.
I started this model thinking it would be simple. But like the building itself, the sophisticated detail reveals itself slowly. Deep window reveals, subtle massing, a form that shifts as you move around it. It took careful work to get the scale and presence right in miniature. I wanted it to feel solid and grounded, just like the original.

Brief Overview:
Located at the heart of UEA’s Brutalist campus, the library was designed to complement the bold forms of Denys Lasdun’s ziggurats. Its horizontal profile and long, glazed frontage provide contrast and calm. Expanded over time, it remains a vital space for students and staff, and a quiet piece of Norwich’s architectural story.

My concrete sculptures are individually hand cast in solid concrete. This means that each piece will have distinctive markings and minor blemishes due to air bubbles in the concrete. This is a natural part of the material and will mean that no two pieces are ever exactly the same.

My concete models are all made using a fine grain quickset cement with a polymer additive. This gives a good balance between strength and detail casting. However concrete is a brittle material so the models are delicate and can break with impact.

Care Instructions
Concrete is a brittle material so these models are delicate objects. They can be chipped or cracked easily and need to be protected from knocks or falls.
My concrete mix is also not waterproof so you should protected your model from damp and moisture.
Extreme changes in temperature will cause expansion and contraction inside the concrete model potentially leading to cracks forming. Keep your model out of direct sunlight and away from heating systems.
